Ashanti Shequoiya Douglas famously known as Ashanti. Ashanti was birthed October 13 1980, on the shores of Glen Cove New York United States. She is a songwriter, singer and actor who hails from her native United States. Ashanti gained fame as a teenager. In 2002, she was signed to Murder Inc. Records. In the same year, she made an appearance on Fat Joe's What's Luv? the song "What's Love?" by Fat Joe as well as Ja Rule, entitled Always on Time was a huge hit for both of them. Her hits include Foolish (number one) and the track What's Luv! She became the first female artist holding both the Top two spots on the Billboard Hot 100 in America, with Foolish at number one, and then What's Love? We can celebrate this special day by celebrating it together. Ashanti Douglas or Ashanti as she is more often referred to was born in Glen Cove New York in the year 1980. Tina Douglas was her mother and Ken Kaide Thomas Douglas had earlier been vocalists. She is the eldest and she has a Kenashia Shia who's her younger sister. Douglas has named her Ashanti in honor of Ghana's Ashanti Empire in which women held power and had power and influence. Douglas wanted Ashanti to be a part of this model. James was her grandfather. He was a leader in the civil rights movement alongside Martin Luther King Jr. in the 1960s. Ashanti's mother stumbled upon her talents after hearing her sing Mary J. Blige's Reminisce. Ashanti performed as an actor for Spike Lee's Malcolm X in 1992 and Ted Demme's Who's the Man? Ashanti was also featured in a few music videos, such as K.R.S. - Act One's "MC's as if they don't" along with Eight-Off Ghetto girl. After having been courted for a long time by various record companies, including Bad Boy, Jive and other companies, Ashanti struggled to be an artist. Ashanti continued to sing throughout New York, and she started to visit at the Murder Inc. studios hoping for a breakthrough. Ashanti originally appeared in the song of Big Pun's How We Roll as a backing singer. Ashanti was also on Fat Joe's track What's Luv? Ja Rule's Always on Time as well as Fat Joe's There is Love. It's her debut single Foolish features a sample taken from DeBarge's song Stay With Me. The debut album of Ashanti was made available through Irv Gotti's Murder Inc. on the label in 2002. The Declaration the fourth studio album, was released on June 3, 2008. Hey Baby was released for radio and digital on October 16, 2009. Also, she was in the films Christmas in the City, Army Wives and Latasha Monteclair. Her track Rock wit U was sampled by British artist Aitch to accompany his track Baby on March 10 2022.
