Nadia and Carol
Nadia Comaneci was born on November 12, 1961, in Gheorghe Gheorghiu Dej (now Onesti), Romania. Nadia is the Romanian Olympic gymnast and she is the only person to be recognized with 10/10 scores during an Olympic performance. Bela Karalyi came across Comaneci when she was six. Later, she would become the Romanian gymnastics coach. The year 1969 was the first time she took part at the Romanian Junior Championships where she placed 13th. In 1970, she won the title. She took home three golds at her first competition in a junior pre-Olympic meeting in 1972 for the communist bloc nations. In 1973 and 1974, she became the junior champion in all-round competitions. At her first competition as a senior athlete in the year 1975, she beat out Russian Lyudmila Turishcheva the five-time European champion, winning 4 gold medals and one silver.
